Traditional Slings From Around The World

We believe that carrying babies in slings and baby carriers is crucial for their development, emotionally and physically, as well as being much more enjoyable for them. Sadly in our culture it is more common to see babies spending long periods of time in carseats, buggys or lying on the playmat, so much so, that they can end up with bald patches on the backs of their flat heads. We also know that most slings and baby carriers that you can buy on the High Street are jolly uncomfortable and hurt your back.

So, from around the World, we offer you a selection of slings and baby carriers that are are based on traditional baby wearing ideas, that women have used, working in fields since the dawn of time. They managed to continue working to provide food for the family, whilst fulfilling all the needs of the baby at the same time. We have lost touch with how it used to be done. I met a women in her fifties, in the supermarket, who herself had been carried in a piece of cloth, wrapped around her mother in Wales. The pram was invented in Victorian times as was the cot (so babies wouldn't breathe the same air as their Mothers!) But go back in history further and Mothers carried their babies in slings and slept in a family bed. So now, we come around in a full circle. Babywearing is popular, even fashionable. Now you can go about your daily activities (whether it be housework, cooking, walking the dog, taking your older children to school, gardening or more fun - a spot of retail therapy, meeting friends or whatever) and carry your baby, comfortably, at the same time. I am glad our lives have changed, but we can look back in history and learn from these women. They understood what babies needed and why and how to it. Wear your baby in a sling, know that you are doing the best thing, look stylish whilst you are doing it and best of all, be comfortable! Hours of comfy carrying - just what baby needs!

‘Love, breastfeed and carry your baby in a sling, close to your heart, for only he that has been loved tenderly as a babe in arms, can grow up to be tender with the world’ - HH
