Kushies (formerly Kooshies) Ultras are an All-In-One cotton flannelette shaped nappy, with waterproof vinyl coated polyester outer, in two sizes. Two bands of Applix on the tummy mean a multi position fastening and the elastication round the legs means a good fit. No wrap needed. Inner fold out flap (pocket) can be folded to suit boy/girl and unfolds for easier drying. Boosters are inserted inside the pocket for absorbency, usually between 2 & 4. I used to occasionally put another 2 boosters behind the flap when I needed a bit extra. Kushies nappies cannot be used successfully without boosters, but it means that it is a slim fitting nappy, with all the absorbent bit between the legs where it is needed! As with all 2 size nappies, you save on initial outlay but you do compromise on fit. They can drown a small baby, especially on a slim baby with skinny legs (never an issue with my chubby bunnies!)
As the style is similar to a disposable, this nappy is very easy to put on, especially with a wriggly baby. One of the most easy to use washable nappies, they are recommended for days out. Leakage though, is an issue with some Mothers and certainly with slim babies, with slim legs, you do have to be innovative when putting them on - By changing the angle of the velcro, it's possible to keep the leg holes as small as possible. However, the waterproof outer does restrict drying speed; even in a tumble dryer this nappy can take a long time to dry.
Wash at 40º/60ºC and tumble dry on cool, however longevity is reduced by tumble drying and a hotter wash.
The absorbency of this nappy is medium (depending on how many boosters you use). This is a useful nappy for days out, when easy, speedy changing is required but we do not recommend them for snoozes or overnight use.
